2009-2010 Music Series

The first two events of our parish Music Series will take place in just a few weeks.

On Friday, October 30th at 7:30 PM, Clive Driskill-Smith, Sub-Organist at Christ Church Cathedral in Oxford, UK will present an organ recital on our Casavant organ.

On Monday, November 2nd at 7:00 PM, the members of our Upper School Honor Choir will join with the Parish Festival Choir in a service of Solemn Evensong in commemoration of all the faithful departed. Included in the service will be a performance of the "Requiem" by Gabriel Fauré, featuring chamber orchestra and soloists.

No schola? *harrumphs*

The Parish Festival Choir is a special choir that assembles for these sorts of events, and is open to all our choir members -- and that, of course, includes members of the schola!

That is true, Father. I just had to throw a 5-second tantrum.

Unfortunately, the subject of All Saint's/All Souls' has not even been discussed among members of the schola.

So, you've added your middle name, George to your "sign on"? What's up?

George is my middle name, and was my father's name. I've always varied between "Christopher G. Phillips" and "Christopher George Phillips," and I guess as I get older I more often use "George" in honor of my father, now departed.

Will the Monday, November 2nd service include a mass? Thanks.

Hmm, I don't think so. At least, I'd be really surprised if the Faure Requiem was used as part of a real Mass here. It'd be cool.... but surprising.

Masses on All Souls Day will be said at 7 a.m. and at 9:15 a.m. It will be Solemn Evensong in the evening, and the Faure Requiem will be sung just before the final prayers. We will, of course, be praying for the departed at Evensong.
