When, oh when will the bishops give Epiphany back to us? Don't they have any sense of the importance of traditional times and seasons? For heaven's sake, didn't they learn to sing "The Twelve Days of Christmas" when they were kids? Honestly, it's one of the biggest tests of my obedience not to keep Epiphany on January 6th. And I won't even mention my problem with Ascension Thursday.
But obedient we shall be, so we'll celebrate Epiphany on January 3rd this year.
O God, who by the leading of a star didst manifest thy onlybegotten Son to the peoples of the earth: Lead us, who know thee now by faith, to thy presence, where we may behold thy glory face to face; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Fr. Phillips,
I so agree with you. We have become soft as Americans and soft as Catholics.
Thank you for your example of obedience. As my departed mother used to say, "Offer it up for the souls in purgatory."
Oh....and a blessed New Year to you, your family and your beautiful parish!
Will the Personal Ordinary be able to set these dates for the parishes in the Ordinariate? I guess Epiphany on Sunday may be common for all of the U.S., but the Ascension Sunday is not. Perhaps another reason to look forward to the Personal Ordinariate.
Daniel, I would think that the Ordinariate can determine these sorts of things for its own parishes. Who knows, maybe we'll get the "gessima" pre-Lent Sundays back!
Dear Father,
Funny you should bring this up! I was so looking forward to January 6 Feast of the Epiphany. Back when I was an Episcopalian my parish was The Epiphany in Richardson,Texas. We made a really big deal of the Epiphany there as well as The Ascension. On Ascension Day we celebrated the Eucharist outside in full view of the passing traffic and each of us held a balloon which we let ascend to heaven. This was prior to knowledge of the harm balloons could cause to birds and other wildlife. After the Eucharist, we had a gala hot dog picnic on the grounds. We Episcopalians knew how to party! So now we are happy and holy Catholics and we can still celebrate these holy days in our hearts. Some day we will be in heaven. We can really celebrate then.
If you go to other countries - i.e. Germany, Epiphany is held on 6th January, as it should be, but for the working population of today, Wednesday is not viable, but Sunday is
