St. John Chrysostom

O God, who didst give to thy servant St. John Chrysostom grace eloquently to proclaim thy righteousness in the great congregation, and fearlessly to bear reproach for the honor of thy Name: Mercifully grant to all bishops and pastors such excellency in preaching, and fidelity in ministering thy Word, that thy people may be partakers with them of the glory that shall be revealed; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Thanks! One of my favorite saints, Fr.

The *synthronon* in St. George's Church in Istanbul (Constantinople) likely was the actual cathedra of St. John Chrysostom. They also possess his relics. A virtual tour of this Church is found here: http://www.patriarchate.org/multimedia/vr/st-george

Matthew, surely you're familiar with artistic license... or do you think our Lord maintained a perfectly trimmed beard, and our Lady always wore blue?

The mitre and vestments are cues to the viewer as to who and what he was. Wonderful picture, Fr.

HA!HA! Got me Father. Neither was Jesus or his mother pale white skinned blue eyed blondes but the western churches love portraying them that way. Odd, as most western Euro Americans don't have pale skin, blue eyes and blonde hair either.

This goes both ways you know. There are eastern icons with St. Augustine or other western saints in decidedly late Byzantine vestments. And Christ is sometimes shown with "African" features. All good.
