The Oath of Fidelity

Within the context of a glorious Sung Mass in honor of Our Lady on the Feast of her Nativity, the members of the faculty and staff of The Atonement Academy made an Oath of Fidelity in the presence of God and the student body of the Academy.  This is the annual practice here, to bind our teachers, by oath, to teach everything within the context of the revealed truth which comes to us from God through His Holy Catholic Church.

+ In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

I, N., promise that I shall always preserve communion with the Catholic Church whether in the words I speak or in the way I act.

With great care and fidelity I shall carry out the responsibilities by which I am bound in relation both to the universal Church and to the particular Church in which I am called to exercise my service according to the requirements of the law. In carrying out my charge, which is committed to me in the name of the Church, I shall preserve the deposit of faith in its entirety, hand it on faithfully and make it shine forth. As a result, whatsoever teachings are contrary I shall shun.

I shall follow and foster the common discipline of the whole Church and shall look after the observance of all ecclesiastical laws, especially those which are contained in the Code of Canon Law.

With Christian obedience I shall associate myself with what is expressed by the holy shepherds as authentic doctors and teachers of the faith or established by them as the Church’s rulers. I shall faithfully assist diocesan bishops so that apostolic activity, to be exercised by the mandate and in the name of the Church, is carried out in the communion of the same Church.

May God help me in this way, and the Holy Gospels of God which I touch with my hands.

I'm asked frequently what is the "secret" of the success of our parish school.  There's nothing secretive about it.  The education we offer is of the highest intellectual calibre, imparted always in the context of the Catholic faith, and strengthened by the daily celebration of Holy Mass with the regular use of the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

This is exactly what is needed in Catholic schools in order to properly form young hearts, minds and souls according to the teachings of the Catholic Church. This kind of unity will produce great thinkers, holy men and women for marriage and vocations to the priesthood and religious life. It will strengthen both society and the Church at large. Bravo!

Why, oh why, won't the U.S. bishops get on board with this kind of oath of allegiance?

Catherine-
Why did the Catholic schools stop teaching a classical education and have become so much like American Public Schools? It's all part of the same package.

Father, are all of your teachers and aides Catholic? As I read it the oath states that they will not teach anything against the teachings of the Church. Does it say that the teacher is actually practicing the faith?

Yes, all administrators, teachers, and aides must be practicing Catholics. Every prospective teacher must complete a catechism test to demonstrate knowledge of the Faith, and if a prospective teacher isn't a member of this parish (which we prefer), each one must be actively practicing the Catholic faith someplace.
