"What does it profit...?"

This makes me feel sick right down to the pit of my stomach. Not so much because the presidential staff made the request (I've come to expect it from them), but because a supposedly-Catholic university complied with the request.

Georgetown Says It Covered Over Name of Jesus to Comply With White House Request
(CNSNews.com) - Georgetown University says it covered over the monogram “IHS”--symbolizing the name of Jesus Christ—because it was inscribed on a pediment on the stage where President Obama spoke at the university on Tuesday and the White House had asked Georgetown to cover up all signs and symbols there. As of Wednesday afternoon, the “IHS” monogram that had previously adorned the stage at Georgetown’s Gaston Hall was still covered up--when the pediment where it had appeared was photographed by CNSNews.com. "For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself? For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of man be ashamed when he comes in his glory and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels." - St. Luke 9:25, 26

Obama: There can only be one, 'One'.

Some people have argued that Obama does not want to use religion to further a political ideology. However, Obama did evoke the Sermon on the Mount, at this Georgetown appearance, to further his economic agenda. Although Obama failed to mention Jesus Christ by name for the Sermon on the Mount.

“There is a parable at the end of the Sermon on the Mount that tells a story of two men…‘the rain descended and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house…it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock,’” Obama said.

“We cannot rebuild this economy on the same pile of sand,” he added. “We must build our house upon a rock.”

The last statement is particularly ironic since building your house upon a ‘ROCK‘ means to build your house with Christ as the foundation. Obama decided to blot out the real foundation from the timeless parable.

Father, thank you for bringing this to our attention. I'm afraid there is more to come from our current President. Just yesterday I participated in the Tea Party protest. The liberal news media managed to twist the story. We need to stand and be counted and say our prayers.

I came here wondering if you had heard of this news. How shameful, a Catholic university denying Christ!

Really? This surprises you? Georgetown is not known for even resembling a Catholic institution.

I keep an Orthdox (as in Greek) icon of the Theotokos displayed on the wall behind my desk in my public school. No one has ever questioned it. Further, most of the admin. and faculty are Baptists and Methodists, and keep Bibles and sundry kinds of religious trinkets on their desks. One would think a Catholic university could do at least as much.

Perhaps the time has come for the Church to confront the fact that Georgetown is not a Catholic university. If their designation as a Catholic university is removed, it would at least be honest.

So if this hadn't happened, the fact that he spoke at a purportedly Catholic university would not be a problem?

That would explain the conspicuous silence here on events at a certain other university that calls itself "Our Lady's."

Anonymous, either you misunderstand me, or I misunderstand you.

This blog isn't a news site, and the fact that the Georgetown incident was mentioned, but the Notre Dame incident wasn't, doesn't mean anything whatsoever. I'm disgusted with the leadership at Notre Dame; Georgetown just seemed to be the icing on the cake, so I said something about it.

Please don't look here for a running commentary on all the major news stories. I have neither the time nor the inclination to comment on everything.
